August 2018 Boxycharm

The August Boxycharm theme for the month was Life of the Party. I think this was mostly because of the launch of the new Laura Lee palettes, since all subscribers were getting her Party Animal palette. This was met with excitement by some, as they were looking forward to NOT receiving another neutral or warm toned palette and dismay by others, like myself, who just can't pull off a palette filled with shocking neon pinks, blues, purples and yellows.

While some people are raving about the palette, others are saying the pigmentation isn't great and that it goes on patchy. Personally, I can't say either way, as I sold my palette the day it came in. I did debate on keeping it for Halloween, but in the end decided just to let it go. With the controversy that soon happened around Laura Lee and the Youtube community, I'm glad that I had decided to part ways with her palette.

Next in the box were Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks. I have to say that I was happy to receive these and actually enjoy them. I have pretty dry under eyes and like to wear these while I'm doing my eye makeup in the morning for a good boost of moisture.

The item I was probably the most excited to receive was a Smashbox Be Legendary lipstick. I was really hoping to receive a nice brownish or peachy nude to match with my colouring, but alas....a super hot pink was in my box. I can't say I was really surprised as I happen to get a LOT of pink lippies in with my subscriptions. Luckily I found another Charmer that had a lovely warm clay red colour and we swapped them out. It's such a pretty colour and one that I had been looking for.

Next was the Adesse Cuticle Almond Oil. Not a very fun item, but useful. My cuticle area is always so dry, I was kind of happy to see this. I look forward to trying it out and seeing if it helps my ragged cuticle situation.

I was also hopeful about the House of Lashes false eyelashes I was getting, but I received the Bambie style. These were way too long and dramatic for me and they also weren't very full. I wound up by selling these to another Charmer that they were more suited towards.

Last up was the Bang Beauty Chocolate Gel Eyeliner. Chocolate, you say. Yes, chocolate. I was SO ridiculously happy to to finally receive a BROWN eyeliner that I could use after always receiving black, that I bought a little Morphe eyeliner brush just to use with it and practice. I was just as ridiculously disappointed to find out that my gel eyeliner was so dried out, it couldn't be used. It just clumped out into a dry, patchy mess when I tried using it. While this product can be used as an eyebrow pomade, and many said that it worked great for this, I have blonde brows, so it's a complete wash for me.

Final verdict?

I normally really love Boxycharm. I look forward to trying out new products and keep an open mind. This was the worst box I've every received from them and I know many Charmers feel the same. Here's hoping the September box is better. If you would like to subscribe to Boxycharm, there is currently NO waitlist. My link to sign up is:
