These are products I've used up completely and finished in August. When you've used up an entire product, it's easier to have a true opinion on how it works. There's skincare, every day items and beauty products listed. How did they work? Did I use them up for the sake of using them up and not being wasteful, or do I really enjoy them. Would I buy them again?
This was recommended by beauty Youtuber Rachhloves. It was one of her favourites (at least at the time). I have to admit...it's grown to be one of my favourite mascaras. It gives my barely there lashes some volume and length and doesn't flake throughout the day. It also holds up all day long for me. I've work it for over 12 hours with no issues.
Would I buy again? I would consider repurchasing this, although it is pricey (about $30). There are so many lower priced mascaras on the market and I get so many in my beauty subscriptions, that I just may not have the chance to buy one again. I do still have one more full tube though, so I will enjoy it while I have it!
The colour brown on this was very nice. Probably one of the best out of all the ones I've tried. I find a lot of brown liquid liners tend to be closer to a black brown and they still just look too harsh on my pale skin. I bought this when I was fairly new to liquid eyeliners and liked the fact that it had a little marker on the other end that would erase mistakes. That little gem can be great for a beginner! That being said...I found this eyeliner to be very patchy. I don't know if the black is the same or if it's just the brown, but it was so patchy, I would have to keep going over it and even then....still patchy. Not great for a beginner...
The eraser was okay if you needed to remove something small, but it did have a tendency to smear and then I would have to fix that. All in all, nothing I couldn't fix just the same with a makeup wipe and fingertip and maybe a little concealer.
Would I buy again? No. I've already moved on...
Another recommendation from a beauty Youtuber, although I can't remember which one. I find this spray not only good for setting the face, but to spritz on my makeup brushes or finger to help make my shimmer and glitter eyeshadows pop. It really helps intensify the pigment and shine factor to give me a lovely foiled look. It works fairly well for helping melt makeup together and making my face look less powdery. For a drugstore setting spray, I enjoy using it, even if it is a little on the pricier side. It lasts me quite a few months, so it's worth it for me.
Would I buy again? I already have.
If you don't know what hyaluronic acid is, you're missing out! I use this underneath my moisturizer morning and night to help draw moisture from the air and into my skin. Since my skin is aging I want to attract any extra moisture that I can to keep my face looking hydrated and smooth. The Ordinary HA is an awesome price (about $6) and smooths over my skin while leaving a slightly tacky feeling, which disappears as soon as I apply my moisturizer. Bonus...The Ordinary is a Canadian company!
Would I buy again? I've got a stash of this so I don't run out because it's a popular item on their website.
Nivea Lip Butter - Vanilla & Macadamia
I purchased this when my lips were going through a dry spell. I had tried a couple of other lip products and they just didn't seem to be helping. This one did. While I wish it wasn't in a pot, so it would be a little more hygienic, it did the job for me. I really like to slather this on at night, although it works good during the day with a thinner application. The scent/taste on this is simply amazing. One of my all time favourites.
Would I buy again? I haven't been able to find this particular flavour/scent again, but I would in a heartbeat. I'm currently using the same brand in a different flavour. I'll let you know how that goes.
I've written about these a previous blog post about my skin care routine. I use this serum before my moisturizer every other night to give my skin a boost of moisture. I can't say enough good things about these capsules.
Would I buy again? I would if I could find them. I purchased these from Costco for the longest time and they haven't had them in ages. Anywhere else they are just simply too expensive - like over triple the price expensive. Unfortunately, not in this blogger's budget. If you do happen to luck up and see these at your local Costco...scoop 'em up. You won't regret it.
My absolute go-to for hand cream. My hands get so dry, especially in the colder months and this is the only thing that I find keeps them moisturized. I have a larger tube by my bed and a smaller one in my purse. I get the package from Costco that has two large tubes and the purse size for around $15. Worth every penny. It's thick and almost feels like it creates a barrier over the skin. I like using this at night before I go to bed and any other time I need a boost of moisture. Works great on elbows and knees too.
Would I buy again? Most definitely.
I'll be the first to admit...I'm not too picky when it comes to shave gels. I switch back and forth between a couple of the major brands, depending which one is on sale. I switch between scents too, although I usually aim for the more moisturizing ones. This lathers well and does it's job. No complaints.
Would I buy again? Sure...if it's on sale. ;)
Soo'AE Charcoal Clay Bubble Mask
I was excited to try out a bubble mask for the first time. I usually like to apply my face masks during a bath, while I relax and read, however I was surprised to find that this one can only stay on for a max of three minutes. Not much time for relaxing and by the instructions, I felt it necessary to actually set my timer to make sure I didn't go over.
The mask spread on well, although I felt I really needed to get every little drop that was in the packet to cover my entire face. It didn't take long to start bubbling and I didn't notice any itching, tingling or anything else that everyone seems to notice when using a bubble mask. I have to admit...I was a little disappointed. When I went to wash this off however, it just didn't seem like it wanted to come off. I had to keep rinsing and rinsing and still it always felt like there was 'something' on my skin. I finally gave up because I think this is just the way it leaves your skin feeling. My skin did look very clean, bright and healthy and my pores looked clean and minimized, so it did work well.
Would I buy this again? No. Although I liked the way my skin looked, I have other masks that work as well and I don't like the way my skin felt as I was washing this off. It felt like there was a residue left behind.
This was a sample I had received from a friend that raved about it. I liked the feel of the gel cleanser and also the scent of it. It removed all my makeup and left my skin feeling good - not too dry or tight.
Would I buy? Maybe....I'm hoping to try a larger deluxe sample so I can give this a go for more than one or two washes. That way I can see if I really do like it. Right now...I don't NOT like it and I did enjoy using it.
I've seen so many people use this stuff, that I was excited to get my hands on a sample of it. It does have a light coconut scent to it, which didn't bother me, even though I'm not a huge fan of coconut. I really can't say this is my favourite. I do have combo oily skin, so maybe that has something to do with it. I applied it to my face and it just seemed a little too greasy/heavy for me. I applied my regular Smashbox primer overtop because I didn't like the way my skin looked and then applied foundation. It just left me looking a bit more than dewy, which isn't the look I'm going for. This might be good if you have drier skin, but I didn't like the way it worked for my own skin and didn't mesh well with my usual products afterwards.
Would I buy? No...not for my personal skin type.
This mask smells lovely. It really does. It has a creamy texture and spreads well on the face. I left it on to dry for 10 minutes, during which it gets really, really tight and then washed it off. My skin felt hydrated and smooth, although was kind of missing that 'clean' feeling I'm used to after doing a mask treatment. This didn't irritate my skin at all.
Would I buy? I don't think so...it was nice, but it's just not what I'm looking for in a mask. I think if you have a dry or dry to normal skin, you would probably really enjoy this.
This moisturizer went on nice and smooth. It did leave my skin glowy and feeling very moisturized. No irritation either and didn't make me break out.
Would I buy? I don't think so. Just a little too heavy for me being combo/oily. I'm not a huge fan of the dewy look either.
That's it for August! Have you tried out any of these products yourself? What did you think?
