September 2018 Boxycharm

September 2018 Boxycharm Products

The September Boxycharm theme for the month was Wildflower. The box included a cool toned palette from Pretty Vulgar, which many were excited about since we normally receive a lot of warm toned palettes (not that I'm complaining since those are my favourites). We also received three brushes from Alamar Cosmetics, a beautiful blush from Laura Geller, a Butter London liquid liner and a liquid lipstick from one of a few different brands. I'll try to include Canadian pricing for products if it's available, but many items we get are only sold in the US.

Many Charmers were clambering for a cool toned palette and they got one. Everyone received the Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Eyeshadow palette this month which contained twelve shades that contained a mix of matte, pearl and shimmer finishes. This was a nice, simple palette for creating an easy everyday look or a deeper, smokey look. I didn't try this one out since I'm not a cool toned gal and passed mine along to someone that can truly enjoy it. The palette retails for $35US or $43 CDN, so already more than the cost of the box.

Next in the box was a brush set from a fairly new company, Alamar Beauty. In a previous month we had also received the first palette from this company, which was beautiful and one of my favourites that I've ever received from Boxycharm. The trio included a fluffy blending brush, a smaller flat shader brush and a flat edged brush that's great for eyeliner (or eyebrows as well). The handles are bright green and a breath of fresh air among all my black and pink brushes. They are super soft, synthetic and work quite well. They pick up pigment, blend out shadows effortlessly and clean up nicely. The Ojitos Brush Trio retails for $18 US.

The item I was probably the most excited to receive was the Laura Geller Baked Blush-n-Brighten in Tropic Hues. This blush is simply gorgeous to look at and is a mix of coral, pink & bronze. Although I don't normally like to wear pinks, this has enough coral and bronze in it and is warmed toned enough that I can get away with it in certain looks. The wear time on this was excellent. It lasted all day long. It blends like a dream and is a beautiful addition to my collection. This blush retails for $28 US.

Next was the Hank & Henry liquid lipstick which I received in Petal Pusher. This was probably the most sought after item in the box this month. A Hank & Henry product had been teased by Boxycharm for months and there was some disappointment when it was learned that not everyone would be receiving a product by them. It turned out to be a variation item for the month and although everyone was receiving a liquid lipstick, the brands varied between Hank & Henry, Lorac, Grande Lips and others. I have to be honest...I was a little disappointed that this brand was only sent out in a single colour, which turned out to be pink. The lipstick smelled yummy and the colour was deep and rich. It was truly one of the most pretty pinks I've received, but I passed this on to someone else. The lipstick retails for $16 US.

The final item in my box was the Butter London Stroke of Wow Liquid Liner. I'm not sure who came up with the idea to put a little roller wheel on the end of an eyeliner, but they should be drawn and quartered. This wheel will not go evenly over loose or wrinkled eyelids and it's extremely difficult to get a solid, straight line. This eyeliner is not for the average person and I think even most experienced makeup lovers will be frustrated with this one. Totally a miss. This eyeliner retails for $19 US.

Final verdict?

I really do love Boxycharm. I look forward to trying out new products and keep an open mind. This month's box was a bit of a hit and miss. I received some really great brands this month, just not in shades that work for me and that's bound to happen with a subscription box. If you would like to subscribe to Boxycharm, there is currently NO waitlist. My link to sign up is:
