September 2018 Ipsy Bag

Oh, Ipsy...just when I think of cancelling, you send a great bag! If you're not familiar with Ipsy, it's a $10 a month subscription service which sends you a cute little makeup bag each month, with five sample size products. Occasionally they send out full sized products as well if it's something small, such as a lipstick, but most are sample and deluxe sample sizes.

The September makeup bag was black canvas type material with a muted gold bottom panel, matching gold metallic zipper pull and zipper. It had two closed eyes with eyelashes on the front of it. This bag is simply adorable and I think it's one of my favourites that I've received since I've signed up. The 'theme' for the month was 'The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.' Here are the products I received this month along with whether I think they fit my profile and reviews given. I also redeemed some points for a few bonus items, which I'll list at the bottom.

The first item was a LUXIE BEAUTY Wonder Woman Detail Tapered Blender {140). I was really hoping I would receive this brush this month. I adore Wonder Woman since I great up watching the show and I was lusting after this brush. It's a different look for Luxie, but it's still a beautiful brush with a navy blue handle, gold wording and Wonder Woman logo. The ferrule is gold with another logo imprinted. The bristles are dense, synthetic and soft. The come to a very tapered point, which makes this a great brush for concealer. The tip fits in that little spot between the inner corner of your eye and your nose. This is not only a pretty brush, but a practical one that's made with Luxie's usual great quality.

Profile: I'd vote this does fit my profile, since I asked for brushes and always rate them highly. I also always give Luxie brushes a huge thumbs up, since they're one of my favourite brands.

Second I received an eyeshadow single from Winky Lux in the shade Ursula. It's a foiled purple shadow that I initially wasn't sure about, but it's a lovely deep, warm purple shade which I really love. It's very pigmented and smooth. Application to the eyes is easy. I usually like using my finger for shimmers and foils, although it did apply nicely with a brush as well. I did this as a base and then topped it with a little from my fingers, which just really seemed to make it pop a bit more. The shadow lasted without creasing which was nice since I find Winky Lux products can be hit or miss.

Profile: I do have eyeshadows on my profile, so that fits. The shade is deep and warm, which also really suits me. I believe I vote Winky Lux mid way on whether or not I like the brand, but since this is just so pretty, it's a win for me. That's two in a row!

The third item in my bag was 111SKIN Space Defence Bright Eye Lift Gel. I had to look this one up when I saw I was going to be receiving it. Turns out it's super pricey and this little sample would price out at over $40. Craziness, right? This left me with high hopes though and an eagerness to try it out, even though I'm not a huge fan of getting skincare in my bag. The eye gel claims to brighten, hydrate, reduce puffiness and minimize fine lines. Pretty much everything you could hope for in a magic face potion, right? I have to say...I really enjoy this. The gel glides on underneath my eyes like silk and it feels refreshing. It only takes the teeniest, tiniest amount too. It sinks in and yet leaves my under eye area feeling very hydrated. I've been using this at night and when I wake up in the morning, my under eyes still feel moisturized and hydrated. It does also make my fine lines less noticeable. I think it just hydrates so much it plumps them up. Whatever it is, I'll take it. I'm going to be sad when this one runs out, because my pocketbook isn't going to be replacing it any time soon!!

Profile: This should be a miss because I don't have skincare items on my profile, BUT, I love it so much, it's a total win for me. And after all...don't we all want to be sent that secret little surprise product we didn't know we needed and wind up loving so much?

My fourth was the SMASHBOX COSMETICS Photo Finish Primerizer. This is supposed to be a moisturizer and primer in one - eliminating a step from your routine. The Primerizer is made with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid which is supposed to hydrate your skin, plump fine lines and diminish pores. I haven't yet tried this out so I'll have to update you, but I'm very excited for this. I've actually been wanting to try out this primer for forever and was extremely excited it was coming in this month's bag. I know so many people that love it and I can't wait to try it out on my combo skin.

Profile: I'm usually iffy on primers because so many of them don't work for me, but this is a hit for my bag. Whether I wind up liking it or not, I DID want to really try it out, so this is a big win for me. Four out of four, Ipsy...what's going on?

Lastly I received the TRÈSTIQUE Mini Lip Glaze in English Rose. This is supposed to be more red tones, but it still has a lot of pink in it, so it's just not for me. This glaze contains coconut and peach oils to hydrate and is supposed to be quite pigmented. A single application is supposed to give you a sheer, stained lip look that you can build up with a second coat to look more pigmented and rich. I can't test this out for you, since I won't wear this colour. It's super pretty, just not me.

Profile: Again with the pinks/purples/reds Ipsy...I don't know how many times I can mark these shades a one star before they get the hint! This is a fail for me....you were SO close Ipsy!!

Point Redemptions

When you review the items you receive, you get points. Likewise if someone subscribes with your referral link. I used some of my points for these four items:

The first item I redeemed for is the ELLA EDEN Loose Eyeshadow in Alex. It's a pretty, shimmery beige colour that I think I'll get a lot of use out of. It swatched nicely and I can't wait to try this one out on my eyes.

The second item I redeemed for is BE A BOMBSHELL COSMETICS Loose Eye Pigment in Solstice. This is supposed to be great for the eyes or also as a highlighter (mostly if you're a deeper skin tone. The shade itself is a shimmery golden copper brown. This colour is right in my wheelhouse, since I love coppers. I find they usually make blue eyes just pop. Very excited to try out this shade!

It was just a loose pigment month I guess. So many pretty shades that I just had to try out. The third item is another BE A BOMBSHELL COSMETICS Loose Eye Pigment but the shade is Afterglow. This one is supposed to be a shimmery rose gold colour. I know, I know...pink right? I really just had to try this one out. Hopefully I'll be able to pull it off and the gold will pop a little more on me than the rose does. We'll see!!

Lastly...and the item I was most excited to see that I could redeem for points was the JUNO & CO. Microfiber Velvet Sponge. I had just watched some reviews on this little sponge on Youtube and magically it appeared on Ipsy for points redemption. The sponge is very lightweight and has a velvety type of feel to it. It expands a fair amount when wet and yet shortly after applying foundation, it feels dry. This is supposed to give the skin an airbrushed, flawless look, which was the conclusion of many Youtubers as well. It uses a little less product as it doesn't absorb into the sponge as much. It really does seem to just apply product to the face rather than soak it in. I've only used this sponge once so far, so I can't form a final opinion. I think I will update this with another post. While part of me liked the way it applied, I also feel like part of me needed a little more moisture from the sponge...but I am going to try this with a few different foundations and we'll see how it goes.

Overall, I was extremely happy with my bag this month. I received amazing brands with really good value. It would be nice if Ipsy could get a lippy right one month, but the other products were just so amazing, I'm not even upset at it. Definitely worth it this month!! My bag is wonderful and will get much use.

Overall Score: 5/5
