October 2018 Ipsy Bag

This was another pretty good month for Ipsy. I received some really good brands in my bag and the colours were perfect for me. That almost never happens. Ipsy is a $10 a month subscription that sends out a cute makeup bag along with five deluxe samples and the occasional full sized product (also the occasional mini sample to be honest). The only thing I was impressed with this month was that delivery took so long. I didn't receive my bag until the last day of the month.

The October makeup bag is one of the favourite bags I've received. It's a brick red bag with a masquerade mask imprint. Simple but pretty. I think I'm going to use it to store some of my Halloween makeup and brushes to keep them safe. The 'theme' for the month was 'Who said nights were for sleep', which is fitting for a masquerade/Halloween theme. Here are the products I received this month along with whether I think they fit my profile and reviews given.

The first item was the SLMissGlam Lilac Sparkle Eye Blender {L50). The brushes from this brand are always so pretty. They aren't my favourite when it comes to application, but they are just so pretty to have in your collection and they do work pretty well. Don't get me wrong...they do the job, they just aren't the ones I reach for first when doing my makeup. It's almost a shame to dirty up the pretty bristles anyway. The brush itself is synthetic and cruelty free. It's fairly well made with soft, fluffy bristles. And the sparkly, lilac coloured handle? To die for!!

Profile: I'd vote this does fit my profile, since I asked for brushes and always rate them highly. I also always give SLMissGlam brushes a huge thumbs up, since they're so darn pretty.

Second I received a Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. This is a fairly small sample, but still deluxe size. I was quite excited to try this out because it seems like every beauty guru on Youtube raves about it. I was worried it would be too dark for me, but low and behold, Ipsy sent my sample in Fair Neutral which is perfect for my pale skin. I have to say...I'm really happy with this so far and I know I'm going to miss it when it's gone...especially since it's not available in Canada (such a tease, Ipsy and Tarte). I need the tiniest dot of concealer because it spreads out and blends so well, while still maintaining coverage. I like to use my fingers and finish with a sponge to help it blend it well without creasing (and of course, make sure you set this).

Profile: I have concealers on my profile and I've rated previous Tarte products highly, so this is a fit as well. I was super excited that it was sent in the correct shade as well. That's two in a row!

The third item in my bag was Take Home the Bronze bronzer from The Balm. I'm generally a fan of this brand even though I've only tried some of their eyeshadows so far, so I was excited to give their bronzer a try. This was sent out in three different shades and I was lucky enough to receive the lightest shade, which is a plus for my super pale skin. The bronzer is matte and applied smoothly and evenly, blending out well. Most importantly, it didn't make me look like an orange oompa loompa. I love these little Balm samples....they are great for traveling!

Profile: I have my profile set for bronzers, plus I've always rated all The Balm eyeshadows they've sent highly. That makes this a third win for my bag this month.

My fourth was a primer from a new brand called Yensa. It's touted as an essential glow primer, which means it's supposed to leave you dewy and luminous. It's supposed to even your skin out and blur pores and imperfections as well. To be honest, I'm probably not going to try this one. Since I have combo/oily skin, I usually stick with matte foundations and don't want my primer to counter that. I've read many reviews of it not making matte foundations sit right and I'm guessing it's because it has some natural oils in it.

Profile: I can be iffy on primers because of my skin type. I'm normally pretty open to trying them out, but I'll skip this one. The brand isn't on my profile, even though primers are. Nothing against Ipsy on this one, but it's a miss for me.

Lastly I received the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. I actually like Oribe products. They tend to work well for me and this is no exception. This isn't technically a dry shampoo, but I found it did help a bit with oils the day after washing. In addition it added a nice volume boost and gave my hair some oomph even though it wasn't freshly washed.

Profile: I don't have any hair products on my profile. Oribe isn't on there as a brand either even though they are a good brand. I honestly just don't like receiving hair products in my bag, so this is a fail for me.

Overall, I was quite happy with my bag this month. I received amazing brands with really good value. I'm not a huge fan of the primer and I don't like receiving hair products, but the other products were such hits (and in my shades!!!), I'm not even upset at it. Definitely worth it this month!! My bag is wonderful and will get much use.

Overall Score: 4/5
