January 2019 Ipsy Glam Bag
January's theme was 'New Year, More Products, More Focus on You'. I think this is because a few months back, they introduced 'add-ons' to some of it's members - myself included. Initially they offered a selection of additional deluxe sample size products for $3 each and you were allowed to add on up to three per account. The second month, there were also additional offerings of full sized products for $10 each, which have included items such as an Ofra Highlighter a Smashbox palette and more. I think most of the full sized products offered are from Ipsy Glam Bag Plus which right now is only available in the US, so it's nice to have a chance at getting a deal on some full sized great products, although this obviously drives the price of your Glam Bag up each month if you choose any.
The January bag was kind of 'meh' for me. It's a canvas bag with pale blue and white pastel stripes and a hot pink zipper pull. It feels kind of summery though and doesn't really have January vibes. Here are the products I received this month along with whether I think they fit my profile and reviews given.
The first item was a Luxie Beauty 1010 Small Contour Brush. I love Luxie brushes and I was excited to be receiving one from their newest ProTools collection. The handle is classic and beautiful and I love the ergonomic curve of the handle. The bristles are nice and soft as always and I'm excited to give this a try. I think it may be a tad small for bronzer, so I'm curious to see how well it works for contouring. I don't normally do a lot of that, but occasionally I like to do my cheekbones and jawline. We'll see how the size of the brush fares for me.
Profile: This fits my profile perfectly. I ask for brushes and I rate them and the Luxie brand very highly every time I get them. Big win for me on this one!
Second I received the OUAI Leave in Conditioner. This is supposed to spritz onto hair and help condition it as well as help reduce frizz, de-tangle knots and help with, flyaways. It's also supposed to provide heat protection against dryers and straighteners. I've heard nothing but good things about this brand, but I'm always less than excited to receive hair products in my bag. I've been getting them a lot lately too. I'm still debating on whether to try this one out or pass it along to someone that would really enjoy it.
Profile: I don't have hair products of any kind selected on my profile and I don't have this brand marked as one that I want to try. I've also given hair products low ratings to try and stop receiving them. Thumbs down on this one.
The third item in my bag was an eyeliner or colouring pencil eye crayon as it states on the product. I received this in the shade Honor, which surprisingly is a lovely shade of brown. I'm so used to receiving black eyeliners - both liquid and pencil - in every single subscription that I was very surprised to see this in a warm brown shade. It's kind of hard to get excited about an eyeliner, but I am kind of curious about this one for a couple of reasons. One being that I've never tried anything from this brand before and I've recently heard some buzz surrounding it and secondly...you guessed it...it's BROWN!! I never receive this shade which is my go-to. Black is just too harsh against my pale skin, but this...this is just perfection for me. It seems soft and creamy to swatch, so I'm really excited to see how it holds up on the eyes and the waterline.
Profile: I don't believe I have eyeliners on my profile, but if you receive any sort of beauty subscription, this is an item that you just know you're going to get. It's worse than all the mini mascaras you'll receive. I do give Ipsy props though for finally sending me something in one of my shades. I'll consider this a win. Even if it is an eyeliner.
My fourth item was a loose pigment eye shadow from Seraphine Botanicals. This is from there Crystal + Chrome line in the shade Smokey Quartz, which is a shimmery dusty rose colour. I will say that I have other products from Seraphine Botanicals and I do like them. They generally make good, pigmented eye shadows, but this is just a shade that I won't wear at all.
Profile: While I do have eyeshadows on my profile and I generally really like receiving them, this isn't a shade I will wear. I give the lowest rating to anything pink I receive and yet I keep getting sent it. Really a shame because this is a fairly good brand from what I've tried out before and it would have been nice to receive something from them that I would use. Not impressed, Ipsy.
The fifth item I received was a Fluide lip gloss in the shade Elsewhere. I have to say...this was pretty scary to receive because it does look blue in the tube. Ipsy assures us that it does apply completely clear though and can be worn along or over top of a lipstick. It's supposed to make your smile look brighter, which I'm guessing is due to the blue hue, although that seems to contradict it being completely clear. Still debating on trying this one out. The gloss contains vitamin E and jojoba oil, which are supposed to be moisturizing, but I'm thinking it would really break down a liquid lip. Hmmm....so many questions about this one...
Profile: I do have lip glosses on my profile but not this particular brand. I normally like trying out a lot of indie and boutique brands though, so that's not so much an issue. I'm really just not sure of this particular product. It really just doesn't seem to be 'me'. This isn't really a win in my book.
Overall, this month was just as 'meh' as the bag itself. I'm happy about the brush and the eyeliner is okay, but it's an eyeliner. I'm just happy it's in a shade I can use, but really...I have a ton of these. Most of these products I will pass along...along with the summery, canvas bag.
Overall Score: 3/5
