February 2019 Topbox and Cake Heavy Cream Review
The month of February brought me a lovely Prive box from Topbox. If you're not familiar with Topbox it's a monthly beauty subscription that is Canadian. Generally you get 4 beauty samples a month for a fee of $12 monthly - no extra shipping costs. The box is generally at your door mid-month. This can be fun to try out since the cost is low, although the samples are fairly hit and miss. What makes Topbox fun and unique is their Prive Wishlist. Near the end of the month you are sent an email with a link to special boxes they are sending out, which are called Prive boxes. These can include higher end brands, full size products and more. You select which ones you are interested in and add them to your 'wishlist'. If you're lucky enough to be chosen, you will receive a Prive box the following month and if not, you will still receive one of the regular monthly Topbox options. Some months you are also offered a 'Beauty Surprise' which is a $10 add-on. In the past this has ranged from a mini-palette that was only worth the $10 to a full sized Glamglow moisturizer or a full sized Smashbox Primerizer. It really is a surprise and a little bit of a gamble each month. These two programs make Topbox a little more interactive and fun and worth the $12 subscription.
February didn't bring exciting Prive boxes (at least for me), but I did put in the option for a couple of them, one being this trio of Cake Heavy Creams. I was in need of a good moisturizer for my purse, so I figured this would be perfect and save me from having to go out and purchase one. Not too exciting, but I've had a couple of really good months from Topbox so not too disappointing for me. I was also curious about Cake products since I recently received a dry shampoo from them Iiked and I also appreciate that they are a Canadian company and this product is made in Canada too. The Prive box brought me three tubes of Cake Heavy Cream to try out which I was grateful for since my skin - and hands especially - have been particularly dry this winter. The Heavy Cream is described as an intensely smoothing body butter balm with rich vanilla shea butter. In fact this cream contains 20% shea butter in addition to other skin friendly ingredients such as aloe vera, coconut oil and green tea extract.
The cream is super thick and my one and only, nit-picky complaint is that it makes it a little hard to squeeze out of the small tubes. It's thick but it does manage to spread easily and absorb quickly right into the skin. As the name and description imply, it has a heavy, warm vanilla scent, although you can detect undertones of the coconut oil. I personally love the scent. Vanilla is one of my favourite scents, so I enjoy it. If you don't like heavily scented products, this probably wouldn't be for you as the scent is fairly strong and it does last a long time. That being said, this cream is pretty long lasting and does leave my dry winter skin feeling moisturized and protected. It initially felt a little greasy as I was rubbing it in, but that doesn't last long at all. It absorbed quickly and left my skin feeling soft and moisturized.
All in all, I'm glad I received this as my Prive box this month. I'm really enjoying the Cake Heavy Cream and am probably going to repurchase in full size in the future. I'm also excited to try out some of their other products. They're two for two in terms of me enjoying their products, so I can't wait to see what else they have to offer. Great job, Topbox! I love that they send out Canadian beauty brands!
