January 2019 Boxycharm
The January Boxycharm theme for the month was Boxy and Chill, which with the crazy weather we've been having lately, just made me think of curling up with a warm blanket, hot chocolate and a good Netflix show. Maybe not what they were intending, but the products didn't really seem to fit any particular 'theme' this month, anyway. It did inspire me to take the photo of the box outside in the freshly fallen snow....because, why not? This month my Boxycharm included an eyeshadow palette from Tarte and Tatcha sheet masks. The other three products I received I believe were variations in the monthly box. I received an Ofra liquid lipstick, a Briogeo hair product and a Billion Dollar Brows pencil. It was a nice mix of items this month and I'm excited to try out the Tarte palette and the Tatcha masks. On to the product breakdown and reviews (where I'm able to). I'll try to include Canadian pricing for products if it's available, but many items we get are only sold in the US or they may be sizes/variations created just for Boxycharm.
The first item that was in all the boxes was a Tarte Rainforest of the Seas palette. This did come in a few different variations and I received volume III, which is the one I was hoping for. The palette contains eight neutral shadows, however only one matte shade to use as a transition shade. The rest are what Tarte describes as microshimmer powders which are supposed to highlight and lift the eyes, making them look brighter and more awake. I'm very excited to try out this palette and especially dip into the Jewel and Ray shades which have more peachy, copper hues to them. Full review on this palette coming soon. This limited edition Tarte palette retails for $36 US or $47 CDN, so already more than the value of the box.
Next in the box were two sheet masks from Tatcha. These are the Luminous Dewy Skin masks, which I'm very excited to try since my skin has been so dry with the winter weather. Tatcha has been buzzed about a lot lately, so I'm looking forward to trying out one of their products. If you're not familiar with Tatcha, they are a Japanese beauty line and many items, such as these masks are listed as clean, natural skin care, I have seen many reviews that say the masks have a lot (and I mean A LOT) of extra serum, so I bought a little travel sized container to store the extra serum in to use in the future if the masks help to hydrate my skin. The masks are very pricey, so I figure I may as well take advantage of the extra serum they provide. The Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Masks retail for $15 CDN each (so $30 total) or $12 US ($24).
The third item I received was an Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick. I received the shade Miami Fever which is one of two shades that were sent out. There were also different brands of lipsticks this month including Bite Beauty, Smashbox and Grande. Ofra was one of the variations. I actually already own this shade and it's one of my favourites. It's a warm, terracotta orange shade which suits many of the looks that I do. Part of me is disappointed I received a shade I already had while part of me is happy to have a backup since Ofra isn't the easiest brand to get in Canada. I do like their liquid lipstick formula as well. It dries quickly, doesn't feel overly dry and lasts a long time.
Ofra liquid lipsticks retail for $25 CDN or $20 US.
Next was the Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave In Conditioning Spray by Briogeo. I received one of these in a past Ipsy bag and really enjoyed it. I don't normally like most leave in conditioners because I find they make my hair greasy fairly quickly. This one doesn't, plus it leaves my hair feeling soft. This scent on this is fantastic too. It's not overly perfumey, but rather smells fresh and clean. While I do love this product and I'm glad to have it, I am disappointed in the size. This is not a full-sized product, by far. It's a deluxe sample or travel sized product. It barely has more than the sample I received in my Ipsy bag. Not what I expect from Boxycharm, especially when they promise full sized products. The Briogeo Rosarco Milk Conditioning Spray retails for $12 CDN & US.
The final item in my box was the Billion Dollar Brows Universal Brow Pencil. I'm not going to try this one out and I wasn't too excited to receive it. I find that brow pencils in the universal taupe shades usually don't work for me. I have pale, barely there brows and the colour on these is usually just too dark. I don't tend to do the overdrawn Instagram brow and prefer a more natural look with my pale colouring, so this product is something I'll be passing along. The brow pencil retails for $18 US.
The total value of November's Boxycharm is $110.00 US and approximately $135 CDN. Pretty good value this month and an interesting mix of items.
I'm happy with my Boxycharm this month, even though the brow pencil is a dud for me. It's amazing to receive a limited edition Tarte palette, which is just so pretty. I'm also excited for the Tatcha sheet masks. If I didn't already have the Miami Fever shade, I would be a little more excited, but honestly, it's one of my favourites and a great addition to my box.
