February 2019 Boxycharm
The February Boxycharm theme for the month was Afterglow...a good follow up to Boxy & Chill, I guess. This was the first month since I've signed up with Boxy that I didn't receive a palette and to be honest.....I didn't really miss it. It was a fantastic selection of products which included some cult favourites. This month my Boxycharm included a cream from from Sol de Janiero , a Touch in Sol primer , a Nudestix eyeshadow, a Pretty Vulgar highlighter and a mascara from Too Faced Cosmetics. It was such a fun mix of items and I'm excited to try out all of them. On to the product breakdown and reviews (where I'm able to). I'll try to include Canadian pricing for products if it's available, but many items we get are only sold in the US or they may be sizes/variations created just for Boxycharm.
The first item that was in all the boxes was a No Poreblem Primer from Touch in Sol. I was really excited to receive this primer because I've heard great things from so many Youtube reviews. The primer comes in a pump bottle, which is nice. It makes it easy to control how much I use and also keeps in sanitary. The primer itself goes on quite smoothly. It feels like it provides my skin with a little hydration, but I can also feel the silicone type feel that I get from other pore filling primers. While I find this doesn't completely fill my pores, it does make for a great canvas for my foundation. Application was smooth and my face looked wonderful all day. I've been reaching for this a lot and really enjoy it. So glad I received this in my box this month! The No Poreblem Primer retails for $18 US or $23 CDN.
Next in the box was a cult favourite mascara - the Better Than Sex Mascara from Too Faced. This mascara claims to be the best selling high end mascara in the US and I personally know tons of people that use it. This is a heavier feeling tube in a pretty metallic pink. The wand is hourglass shaped which, along with the formula is supposed to give pretty intense looking fuller, longer lashes. I've seen others use this and they have fabulous lashes, but this particular formula just doesn't do anything amazing for me. It is very black and it coats evenly and nicely, but for me, it doesn't provide the length and volume I need. In addition, I find it flakes thoughout the day on me. I was still really happy to receive this because I was able to pass it along to a friend that absolutely loves it. The Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara retails for $31 CDN or $24 US.
The third item I received was the Pretty Vulgar Shimmering Swan Highlighter. I received the shade Sparkling Sass, which is one of a few shades that were sent out. Some Charmers also received bronzers instead of highlighters from the same brand. There was a lot of disappointment with this particular product this month, because the majority of them arrived smashed to smithereens. So many in fact that Boxycharm wasn't able to replace them all and had to contact Pretty Vulgar to figure the issue out. At this point in time, I believe a solution is still being figured out. Mine as you can see came fully intact. I was happy to receive this shade because it was the only one that wasn't pink toned. This one leans to a warm peachy gold and my only worry was that it might be too dark. It looks a lot darker in the pan and photos however than it does on the face, because even my very pale skin can wear it. I love this on the inner corner or the tops of my cheekbones. It applied well and didn't seem to accentuate texture or fine lines. For me, this is more wearable than the Molten Gold Highlighter from Maybelline which I love as well. Even though it seems it will be dark (there were jokes online about it looking like a bronzer), it actually works better for me than other gold shades. Did I mention the packaging is super cute too? The Pretty Vulgar Shimmering Swan Highlighters retail for $39 CDN or $32 US.
I've been wanting to try out Nudestix for a while now. Although I was hoping to try out one of their lippies, I was still excited to receive one of their eye pencils. Copper is one of my favourite colours to wear on my eyes because I find it makes blue eyes pop, so this was just perfect for me. The shadow glides on smoothly and blends out well with other shadows, which is sometimes an issue with pencil or crayon eye shadows. I used a primer with this (as I do with all eye shadows) and had no fading or creasing throughout the day. I was pretty impressed with the wear and the look of this this. So glad to get this in my box this month! The Nudestix Magnetic Eye Colour retails for $29 CDN & 26 US.
The final item in my box was the Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream. I have a mini of the Bum Bum Cream from the same company and really love the smell. It's not the most hydrating cream I own, but the smell makes it worth it. This particular cream is supposed to be their most hydrating cream for the skin, so I'm curious to see how this one performs. The scent is described as having notes of toasted coconut, creamy caramel and buttery pecan. The coconut smell itself is very strong, so if you don't like that scent, you won't like this. It does have a very strong sweet smell to it as well, although it's hard to directly pin to the above notes. After application, many say they smell buttered popcorn and to be honest I do occasionally smell it in passing every now and again while it's on. We received this in the 'travel size' of 75ml. This particular size of Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream retails for $20 US or $25 CDN.
The total value of February's Boxycharm is $120.00 US and approximately $147 CDN. Great value this month, especially since I'll use everything in it!
I'm extremely happy with my box this month. I thought I'd be upset there was no palette, but I wasn't. I'll use each and every product I received (except for the mascara which I'll pass along). All items are mainstream brands you can find at Sephora or Shopper's Beauty Boutique, which is amazing. If you would like to subscribe to Boxycharm, there is currently NO waitlist.
