Topbox Review: March 2019
March brought me one of the regular Topbox variations. I found most of the variations shown to be pretty similar this month, but I did notice they sent everyone a bonus item of the new ChapStick Total Hydration line. It's always nice to receive an extra item, especially if it's a good one! If you're not familiar with Topbox it's a monthly beauty subscription that is Canadian. Generally you get 4 beauty samples a month for a fee of $12 monthly - no extra shipping costs. The box is generally at your door mid-month. This can be fun to try out since the cost is low, although the samples are fairly hit and miss. What makes Topbox fun and unique is their Prive Wishlist. Near the end of the month you are sent an email with a link to special boxes they are sending out, which are called Prive boxes. These can include higher end brands, full size products and more. You select which ones you are interested in and add them to your 'wishlist'. If you're lucky enough to be chosen, you will receive a Prive box the following month and if not, you will still receive one of the regular monthly Topbox options. Some months you are also offered a 'Beauty Surprise' which is a $10 add-on. In the past this has ranged from a mini-palette that was only worth the $10 to a full sized Glamglow moisturizer or a full sized Smashbox Primerizer. It really is a surprise and a little bit of a gamble each month. These two programs make Topbox a little more interactive and fun and worth the $12 subscription.
March didn't bring me a Prive box, but I did get an interesting assortment of products. First off was the bonus item, which was a ChapStick Total Hydration Lip Scrub. I purchased a couple of products from this line just a few weeks ago and actually really like them, so I was happy to see them being included. To be honest, I was really hoping for the lip oil treatment. It's by far my favourite product that I've tried from the new line. It's a nice, thick lip oil that I find helps combat the winter dryness. I tend to get very dry in the winter and that includes my lips. I was on the hunt for something to use at night that was on the more inexpensive side and this was perfect for me. It lasted a long time and kept my lips feeling moisturized. I have a couple of lip scrubs already open - I find it takes a while for me to go through them, so I'll probably pass this one along to someone that can use it.
The second item I received was a jar of Hadaka Butterful Marula Butter Cream. I'm not familiar with this brand at all, but the jar was a large size for a sample. The jar says is has a citrus scent and when you open it up it does smell strongly of lemons. I wasn't sure how I felt about that at first. Lemon scents usually remind me of cleaning products, so it was hard to imagine it as a body cream. It has grown on me though and my daughter absolutely loves it. She thinks it smells like lemon meringue which actually helped me get over the scent I think. The cream itself is a thicker consistency and feels moisturizing and hydrating without feeling greasy. I've only used it a couple of times so far, but am looking forward to trying it out further. So glad I received this in my box this month.
Also in my box this month was a Detox Diva MaskerAide sheet mask which is supposed to hydrate, exfoliate and detoxify. Topbox tends to send out a lot of sheet masks from this brand, but I happen to like sheet masks, so I don't really mind. It saves me from purchasing them. I was happy to receive a nail and cuticle oil from Delia Organics as well. If you read my blog regularly you already know I have dry skin and hands and nails are really the worst. I'm a huge fan of nail and cuticle oils and am looking forward to seeing how this one compares to the one I'm already using. Lastly was an eyeliner from Doucce. A blue eyeliner. I'm not really a fan of the Doucce brand. I find they are in so many subscription boxes and have a sub-par product most of the time. To me this is always just a filler item. The colour is beautiful though, I just happen to not be a fan of blue and can't really carry this off.
All in all, I'm happy with my box this month. I'll get use out of almost everything received and it will actually stop me from having to buy a couple of things, so for me, it was definitely worth the cost of the box. Great job, Topbox! This was one of the best regular boxes I've received.
