March 2019 Boxycharm
The March Boxycharm theme for the month was La Vie En Rose. It was quite fitting since everything had a rosy pink feel to it. Although there was a palette included this month, it was a face palette from Cover FX which was a nice change of pace from receiving an eyeshadow palette. This month my Boxycharm also included a face mask from from Wander Beauty, a Ofra Liquid Lipstick, a brush duo from Moda and a liquid eyeshadow from Appeal Cosmetics. It was an interesting and pretty mix of items this month that I'm excited to test out. On to the product breakdown and reviews (where I'm able to). I'll try to include Canadian pricing for products if it's available, but many items we get are only sold in the US or they may be sizes/variations created just for Boxycharm.
The first item that was in all the boxes was a the Perfector Face Palette from Cover FX. I received mine in the shade light/medium, which is perfect for me. I know some received the wrong shades for their skin tone, so I was worried I would get the medium/dark version. Thankfully I received the right one, because some of these shades look like they may be a bit too dark for my pale skin, but we'll see how it goes when applied to the skin. The palette contains six pans - two highlighters along with one brightener, a contour shade, blush and finishing powder. I'm really excited that I received this palette in my box. I've used a few different Cover FX products and I've liked them all so far. I've got high hopes for this palette and will be doing a separate review on it as well. The Cover FX Perfector Face Palette retails for $45 US or $57 CDN which is amazing and well over the cost of the box already!
Next in the box was the MODA Limited Edition 2-pc Powder & Soft Glow Kit. MODA brushes are made by Royal & Langnickel and are normally a more affordable makeup brush line that you can find at retailers such as Walmart. This is a special limited edition set though that consists of a fluffy powder brush (which I'll probably use for bronzer) and a highlighter brush. The handles on these are a beautiful metallic rose gold tapered design, which is just so pretty. I'm not sure if that justifies the price, but I'm always happy to receive brushes in my subscriptions. It's nice to have extras when I don't feeling like cleaning my current stash! The MODA 2pc Powder & Soft Glow Kit retails for $29.99 US.
The third item that everone received was the Wander Beauty Lift Off Purifying and Brightening Peel Off Mask. This shimmery berry coloured mask contains acai, goji berry, blueberry, lychee, mangosteen and green tea extracts along with Kaolin clay (an ingredient which I really love in face masks). While this is a great item to receive in the box, I'm not a huge fan of peel off masks because I prefer a gentler sheet mask or wash off mask, so I'll be passing this along to someone that can use it. The Wander Beauty Lift Off Mask retails for $34 US.
This is a really pretty shade, although from swatching it, it does look much more on the gold side with not much rose tint to it, which for me is a good thing. It looks very pigmented and shimmery, so I'm looking forward to trying it out. The applictor on this is different than you might expect. I thought it would have a brush tip similar to liquid lipsticks, but it's a skinny brush that's closer to a liquid liner. That might be a good thing though as it could lend to using it for a thin line if needed for a more creative look, depending on how precise the brush is. The question when trying this out though will mostly be how it blends with other shadows and does it crease. To be honest, I've never heard of the brand (although I could swear I saw it up on the Shop Miss A $1 site?? Unsure about that though. For what it's worth though, I still find it hard to believe it's worth the price listed. I guess we'll just wait and see how it performs. I'm not mad about receiving it though. The colour is very pretty and one that I'll use as long as it works well. The Appeal Cosmetics Liquid Eyeshadow retails for $21 US.
The final item in my box was a liquid lipstick from Ofra in the shade Monaco. I love Ofra liquid lipsticks. They have a really good formula - pigmented, quick to set, transfer proof and not overly drying. The shade Monaco is a metallic rose shade though, which isn't my preference in lipsticks at all. While I don't mind a good metallic shade once in a while, this colour is just not a good shade for me, so I'll be passing it along to someone that will love it. The Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick retails for $20 US.
The total value of March's Boxycharm is $150 US and approximately $194 CDN. Great value this month and lots of wonderful brands!
I'm very happy with my subscription this month. Even though I'm not a fan of the lipstick shade, I know I can swap it out for something different in one of my makeup groups or just pass it along to someone else. Honestly, I'm so happy about receiving the palette, it makes up for the items I won't use. The value this month is still here for me.
