April 2019 Ipsy Glam Bag
April's theme was Fresh Spring Beauty and what could be fresher than a bright lemon makeup bag. The bag itself was whimsical and fun. It has a vinyl feel to it with bright yellow, black and green lemons over a white bag and topped with a matching yellow zipper pull. Very fitting to get us into Spring mode - even though the weather may not be cooperating here! Here are the products I received this month along with whether I think they fit my profile and reviews given.
The first item was a Firma Beauty Angled Contour Brush. This feels like a very sturdy brush. It has a bright white handle and synthetic bristles. This is a smaller style contour brush which I think will probably work out better for me than the larger ones I own and usually don't use because I can't get as precise as I need. I've been looking for a nice contour brush, so I'm excited to give this one a try. I've never used anything from Firma Beauty before so I'll have to see how it goes. The bristles seem nice and soft and I like the shape and size!
Profile: This fits my profile well. I ask for brushes and I rate them very highly every time I get them. I've never tried brushes from Firma Beauty, but I've been wanting to try out a brush like this for my contour.
Second I received a Laura Sanchez Moods Eyeshadow in the shade Rose Gold Woman. I have to give credit to the beautiful and very cool packaging on this. You can't see it in the photo, but when you open the entire eyeshadow single it makes one long continuous picture of a woman holding a crystal ball. The colour of this on the other hand, although beautiful, is not me. I don't do pinks at all and was really hoping for the green shade of this. Thank goodness the colour I wanted was available as an add-on, but I'll go into that later.
Profile: I have eye shadows on my profile, because I do love to receive them. I'm not a fan of this metallic rose gold shade though and have asked many times to not receive pinks. Not a win for me.
The third item in my bag was a mini theBalmJour lip stain from The Balm in the shade Konnichiwa! I have some eyeshadows and a bronzer from theBalm and I love them. I'm a fan of the brand, so I'm excited to get to test out a lip stain from them. They just have some of the coolest retro packaging too (and not to mention fun puns for their products too). This lip stain is a peachy terracotta stain/gloss hybrid. I do believe this is the first time since I've been signed up with Ipsy (which has been over a year) that they have finally sent me a lip colour that I can not only wear, but that I'm looking forward to trying. Finally - not a lipstick that is pink, purple or red. I'm crazy excited for this!!
Profile: I have lipsticks and theBalm on my profile so it first perfectly. Not only that, but the shade is also perfection and really suits me. I can't wait to get this on my lips!
My fourth item was a Tarte Base Tape Hydrating Primer. I'm excited to try out this product too. I'm a huge fan of Tarte products and I've really been enjoying hydrating primers lately, especially with my dry winter skin. I'm curious to see how this compares to my Smashbox Primerizer. The Base Tape claims to hydrate your skin for 12 hours while making makeup look better and last longer. It contains jojoba and grapeseed extracts as well to help moisturize. I'll be trying this one out very soon and I'll let you know how it goes!
Profile: I have primers on my profile and also the Tarte brand, so this is a definite fit for me.
The fifth item I received was the 111SKIN Y Theorem Repair Serum. I'm usually not a fan of skincare in my bag, but I am a big fan of this brand. I've previously used their eye gel, which I loved and I'm looking forward to trying out their serum as well. This serum claims to hydrate and help boost collagen production to support cell regeneration and improve elasticity while also reducing fine lines. Those are some big claims and this brand's products usually come with a big price tag too, so I can't wait to see how this performs. The full size (30ml) retails for $330 Canadian (coverted from pounds). This sample is 10ml, so as you can imagine...I was very happy to receive this.
Profile: I don't have skincare on my profile and I also don't have this brand checked (I don't think it's actually even an option). I have rated this brand positively in the past before because I really enjoyed the product, so I'm happy to receive this particular serum.
Since it looks like add-ons are here to stay, I thought I'd include them this month. Each month when the Spoiler Alert comes out my Ipsy bag, I'm offered the chance to add on up to 3 products. Sample sizes are an additional $3 each and full sized products are $12 (they were initially $10 when it first started a few months ago). This offers a great chance to snag a product you may have been hoping to receive or to purchase a full sized item at a great discount. Last month I snagged a Huda Beauty Obsessions Coral Palette, which normally retails for $35 and the month before an IT Cosmetics foundation brush which retails for over $60. It's hard to not go overboard, but again, we're limited to three products. This month I
chose the Laura Sanchez Moods Eyeshadow in Martini Olive Green because I had received the pink shade in my actual bag. I also picked up the Goldfaden MD Bright Eyes Serum. I'm almost out of my current eye cream and have been looking for something new. One of my ride or die face masks is from Goldfaden MD, so I was happy to see this available. I'm hoping that I like it as much as I do their face mask. The concentrate claims to brighten the eye area, reduce puffiness and help with fine lines. I don't usually get puffiness, but I'm hoping that maybe it will brighten the area and help minimize the crows feet that seem to be rapidly appearing around my eyes. The reviews seemed good and this is supposed to work well under makeup too, so I think it will be money well spent.
Overall, this was a great month for Ipsy. I'm happy with everything except for the eyshadow, but I was able to get the one I wanted, so it worked out. I'm beyond happy to get a brush I was looking for, a lipstick that suits me, a primer I wanted to try anyway and a luxury serum. Not to mention an eye cream that I was going to have to purchase anyway. Good job this month Ipsy!
Overall Score: 4/5
