Topbox Review: May 2019
May brought me a Prive Topbox, which was a nice change. It's been a while since I've been granted a Prive box and this one had a nice assortment of products. If you're not familiar with Topbox it's a monthly beauty subscription that is Canadian. Generally you get 4 beauty samples a month for a fee of $12 monthly - no extra shipping costs. The box is generally at your door mid-month. This can be fun to try out since the cost is low, although the samples are fairly hit and miss.
What makes Topbox fun and unique is their Prive Wishlist. Near the end of the month you are sent an email with a link to special boxes they are sending out, which are called Prive boxes. These can include higher end brands, full size products and more. You select which ones you are interested in and add them to your 'wishlist'. If you're lucky enough to be chosen, you will receive a Prive box the following month and if not, you will still receive one of the regular monthly Topbox options.
The star of my Prive box this month was The e.l.f. Cosmetics Mad for Matte eyeshadow palette. I've always heard such amazing things about this palette that I'm excited to try it out for myself. This is such a good nude palette to have on hand that can easily be used for a full look, or to dip into for some amazing transition shades. It's small as well, which makes it a good choice to travel with. These are supposed to be buttery soft shadows which perform well over the low cost associated with them.
Next, I received a travel sized Batiste Dry Shampoo. This is a great brand of dry shampoo and one that I use on occasion. I'm happy to have one on hand that I can throw in my bag when we go away. I also received a lip liner in True Red from Studio Makeup. I'm not familiar with this brand and I probably wouldn't have occasion to use this particular colour, but my oldest daughter was looking for a red lip liner and snatched this one up quickly.
The last item I received was a bottle of Physician's Formula Rose All Day Oil Free Serum. The only product I've ever tried from this brand is their Butter Bronzer. I'm not familiar with this serum, but I'm looking forward to trying it out, especially since it's oil free. It felt nice on my hand and left a very slight glow, but felt light and not greasy at all. It did have a fairly strong floral smell to it, so I'm not sure how my skin will react. I do really want to test this out though, so I'll update to let you know how it works on my skin and also how it handles under makeup.
All in all, I'm happy with my Topbox this month! I'm looking forward to using everything with the exception of the lip liner, but my daughter wanted one in this exact colour, so it worked out anyway. I think the value of this box was definitely worth the $12 for me, especially considering that's the price of the palette alone.
