Boxycharm - May 2019
The May Boxycharm theme for the month was Make Waves. I'm not really sure how the theme fit in with the actual products, but the box itself was interesting. There were many variations this month and I received variation one, which included a Glamglow cleanser. The alternative product for this was a First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Cream. Both great products, but I was actually hoping for the Glamglow since I had a not so great experience with a First Aid Beauty product previously. This month my Boxycharm also included a blush palette from Alamar Cosmetics, a Dose of Colors liquid lipstick, a Ciate Eye Lustre Eyeshadow Cream and an eyeliner from Bodyography. On to the product breakdown and reviews (where I'm able to). I'll try to include Canadian pricing for products if it's available, but many items we get are only sold in the US or they may be sizes/variations created just for Boxycharm.
The first item that was in all the boxes was the Colorete Blush Trio from Alamar. This actually came in three different shade variations for different skin tones - fair/light, medium and deep. While some received the wrong shade, I received the lightest one, which was the correct palette for my pale skin. I was really excited for this blush palette, because I'm a huge fan of Alamar Cosmetics. We've received an Alamar eyeshadow palette and brushes in previous boxes and the quality of everything has been amazing. This palette is no exception. While the shades are perfect for me, the quality is there too. I wore Scorcher yesterday and the shade applies smoothly, evenly and just seems to blend itself in on application. I had a healthy, beautiful flush and glow. I think this palette may overtake Milani Luminoso as my favourite blush and that position has been held for a couple of years. The Alamar Colorete Blush Trio Palette retails for $22 US which already covers the cost of the box!
Next in the box was a GentleBubble Cleanser from Glamglow. as I mentioned above, that while this was one of the main items featured in the box, there was another variation item of the Coconut Water Cream. I was happy to receive either, but I was really hoping for the Glamglow Cleanser because I wanted to try this out. This is a vegan formula that has apple extract, vitamin E and green tea which is supposed to gently bubble up during application despite the fact that it is soap free. While I was expecting to find this had a strong perfume scent to it, it doesn't smell like anything really. I was pleased to see that's because it's also fragrance free (as well as SLS/SLES free too). The Glamglow GentleBubble Cleanser retails for $28 US or $35 CA.
The third item was a variation item and I received a Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick in the shade Pinky Promise. I had my fingers crossed for a Dose of Colors lippie, because I've heard that they are very pigmented, smell amazing and are super comfortable to wear on the lips. They also aren't available in Canada unless you order directly from the US website. I unfortunately received a bright pink shade, which just isn't something I would ever wear. I was hoping to be able to trade this out in one of my makeup groups for a warmer nude, but it seems that all the shades that were sent out leaned pink or red. This is an amazing product to receive in the box, but unfortunately the shades just didn't work for me personally. The Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick retails for $18 US.
Next was another variation item - the Ciate London Eye Lustre Creme Eyeshadow. I received the shade Cupid which is a light purple gold shimmer. This eyeshadow cream can be swiped on for full coverage or there is the option of blending it out to completely sheer the formula and just leave a sheer sparkle 'glow' effect to the eyelid. This means it can be used solely as an eyeshadow or you can use it as a topper to add shimmer to another shadow. I'm not really a fan of this shade, so I'll probably pass it along to someone else. I do wish we would start to receive some more matte eyeshadows in our boxes rather than always something glittery or sparkly. The Ciate London Eye Lustre Creme Eyeshadows retail for $22 US.
The final variation item in my box was an eye pencil from Bodyograpy in the shade Midnight Blue. I'm not really a huge fan of receiving eye pencils because I receive so many of them in subscriptions. In fact, I received one just last month in my Boxycharm that didn't work at all. I do have a makeup brush cleaner from this brand, which I do enjoy, but I haven't tried out any of their makeup products. I'm going to pass this product along too, because I know I won't get any use out of a blue eyeliner. The shade itself is super pretty, just not for me personally. The Bodyography Eyeliner Pencil retails for $14 US.
The total value of May's Boxycharm is $104 US and approximately $140 CDN. Not a bad value at all, but lower than usual.
While a few of the shades were off this month for me, I'm just so happy with the Alamar blush palette and the Glamglow, that it's still worth it to me this month. I know I'm going to be reaching for the blush all the time and it's probably one of my new favourite things. The lipstick and the eyeshadow were great brands to receive, just not colours that I personally use, which is the chance you take with subscription boxes. All in all though, it was a great assortment of products and brands. If you would like to subscribe to Boxycharm, there is currently NO waitlist. My link to sign up is:.
