May 2019 Ipsy Glam Bag

May's Ipsy Glam Bag theme was Ipsy Daydream and and came with a very glittery, sparkly glam bag with a black zipper pull. I'm not really sure how well that fits with their 'theme', but it seemed like an odd choice for a spring bag. I don't know...maybe it's just me, but this felt like something I would see around the holidays or even January. It is a pretty bag though so anyway...here are the products I received this month along with whether I think they fit my profile and reviews given.

The first item in my bag was the SS57 SLMissGlam Blending Brush. This brush is just so pretty. It has a clear plastic handle filled with glitter. The bristles are an ombre design of blue and pink and are nice and soft. I'm really at a cross when it comes to these brushes. They are absolutely beautiful and I love having them in my collection, but I find that I don't really reach for them, because I just don't find they pick up pigment as well as some of my other brushes. I do love receiving these though because they are nice to add in to photos for my blog. The colours are vibrant and there's no denying they're gorgeous.

Profile: This fits my profile perfectly. I ask for brushes and I rate them very highly every time I get them, especially the SLMissGlam ones because I enjoy using them in my photos and they're nice to collect.

Second I received an eyeshadow from Hikari in the shade Honeydew. I originally thought this was going to be a good choice for me, but it's actually a pinky coral shimmer, which is why I left the little compact sealed for the picture. I'm not a fan of pinks, so I'll be passing this one along to someone else. Hikari is cruelty free and this particular shade of eyeshadow can apparently double as a highlighter, which is nice if the shade works for you. This was a full sized, large pan, so it would last a very long time.

Profile: I have eye shadows on my profile, because I do love to receive them. I'm not a fan of this shimmery coral pink shade though and have asked many times to not receive pinks. Not a win for me.

The third item in my bag was a mini BADgal Bang mascara from Benefit. I've heard really good things about this mascara. I know it's a favourite among many. It's really supposed to get to the roots with the wand style and provide both length and volume to lashes.I would normally want to try this out but I honestly just have so many mascaras already open (both purchased, from sub boxes and others I was sent to test out) that I just can't bring myself to open this one to try it out. I've already got my fingers crossed that I can use up my other mascaras before they dry up too much. This was a nice inclusion in the bag and I'm not mad for receiving it, because if I didn't have so many open right now, I'd try this out in a heartbeat.

Profile: I have mascaras on my list I believe - although I should probably really take them off for a bit so this doesn't happen again for a while (at least hopefully). I do have Benefit checked off though, so this does fit my profile.

My fourth item was the Preventative Measures After Hours Lip Balm. Let's be honest here...no one gets excited about receiving a lip balm in their bag in place of makeup or skincare, except for maybe if it's Laneige or another really hot brand. This one was touted as being toxin free and natural as well as hemp infused. Hemp seems to be the new buzz word when it comes to makeup and skincare and I guess this is no exception. As I looked further into this I wasn't all that impressed. Main ingredients in this are petrolatum (which can cause lips to become drier), mineral oil (which there is a lot of controversy over it's safety) and sucralose. I avoid artificial sweeteners like the plague so I sure as heck don't want it in my lip balm.

Profile:I don't have lip balms on my profile or this brand. This was a big fail.

The fifth item I received was black pencil eyeliner from Pixi by Petra. I'm not usually a fan of receiving eyeliners because I receive a lot of them AND I get a lot of crappy brands too. I've been wanting to try out more items by Pixi, so this was a nice surprise. The formula is rich, creamy and very pigmented. It applies smoothly and evenly and stays put as well.

Profile: I honestly can't remember if I have eyeliners on my profile or not - but I don't think I do. I don't have this brand checked either, but even though this doesn't really fit, it's a good eyeliner, so I'm happy with it.

Add-ons this month were okay, but there really wasn't anything too exciting. I chose a Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment by Sunday Riley, which was disappointingly small. I also chose the Dew Mist from Bare Minerals, which I'm seeing a wide range of reviews on. People either seem to love this one or hate this one, so I'll have to see how it goes! Lastly, I picked the 22E Shade and Blend brush from Farah. I have a couple of Farah brushes and although they tend to be pretty, they just feel cheap. They are always super light weight and don't seem to be the best quality. The bristles are okay. Nothing special and they do the job in a pinch. I won't be getting anymore brushes from this brand (by choice anyway).

Overall, this was kind of a 'meh' month for me. There are some good brands, but just nothing I'm overly excited about except for maybe the Bare Minerals Dew Mist. Hoping the next bag will be better. I've seen a sneak peek of a Tetris bag with matching brushes and makeup, so it could be interesting!

Overall Score: 2/5
