Review: Wet n Wild X Pac-Man Collection
Aaahhh...Pac-Man. Growing up in the 80's I was a huge fan of Pac-Man. My grandfather used to take me for one on one time to a little local pizza place, buy me a personal pizza, a Shirley Temple and let me play a table top version of Pac-Man until we ran out of quarters. I eventually received a mini tabletop arcade Pac-Man as well, which I still have to this day, as you can see from my photos.
I was so excited to see that Wet n Wild was doing a collaboration with Pac-Man and releasing an entire line of makeup. It just automatically makes me remember the 80's with the bright, neon colours, flamboyant styles and amazing music. I was lucky enough to be on vacation in Maine on the day it was released and was able to get my hands on some of the collection.
To start with, the most sought after item was of course the Game Over Color Palette. This sold out quickly everywhere the day it was released. I was very happy to get my hands on one and I'm so glad that I did. Rainbow palettes are popping up everywhere right now and Wet n Wild offers a very affordable option with the Pac-man palette. The 9-shadow palette contains 7 mattes, 1 shimmer and 1 metallic/glitter shade.
I have to say that I was really impressed with this palette, given the pricepoint of $9.99. The shades were pigmented, buildable and very blendable. I easily created a beautiful rainbow eye with the shades blending together almost effortlessly. The pigment is on par with much higher end eyeshadows, so you really can't go wrong with this. It wore all day with no creasing and the shades hardly showed any fading at all. My only issue with the palette is mine is quite hard to open. I'm not sure if my palette was damaged or has some sort of issue, but it's extremely hard to open to the point where I'm worried it will fly out of my hands when it does open with force. I actually may contact Wet n Wild to see if anything can be done, because I do really love this palette, but the thought of opening it, makes me not want to reach for it, it's that difficult.
The other products that I was especially desperate to get my hands on were the makeup brushes. Wet n Wild released two brushes, the Waka Waka Waka Eyeshadow Brush ($7.99) and the Waka Waka Waka Powder Brush ($8.99). The brushes have synthetic black bristles with a bright yellow tip. The handles are filled with water and glitter confetti including little yellow Pac-Men that float around. They are the ultimate 80's makeup brush, if there ever was such a thing.
As for performance the brushes are ridiculously soft and the powder brush is quite fluffy. They really do feel much more expensive than they are and they perform beautifully, picking up pigment easily and blending it out nicely. I can't recommend these brushes enough if you're able to get your hands on them.
One of the other items I purchased was a Ghost Gloss ($5.99). They come in four shades - Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde. Inky is blue, Pinky is of course a bright pink, Blinky is a reddish-berry shade and Clyde is a Peachy Nude. I of course went for Clyde. The glosses contain vitamin E, murumuru seed butter and shea butter. They are a fairly typical gloss. Clyde provides a light sheer peachy coverage that works well over a lipliner. They feel nice on the lips, not sticky or heavy and last about as long as you would expect a gloss to last.
The other two items I grabbed were for my 12 year old daughter - the Bonus Lip Scrub and Bonus Lip Balm ($4.99 each). These are super cute and come in mini cherry and mini green apple shaped packaging. They smell exactly like the cherry and green apple candy scents I remember as a kid. The balm and scrub work well for what they are, but they are definitely not high end products. As a nostalgia item they are nice and I don't regret picking these up at all.
I did also grab the Perfect Game Nail Kit ($9.99), which has 5 nail polishes including, yellow, hot pink, blue, orange and red. I haven't had a chance to try these out yet, but the shades look very vibrant and fun. I'm actually thinking about putting this away as a stocking stuffer for my daughter.
There are other items in the collection, but some I couldn't find and others I wasn't too interested in trying out. If you're looking for the full collection, they also have the Pac-Man High Score Blush Palette ($9.99), Pac-Man Power Pellets Blushlighter and Bronzer ($6.99 each).
All in all, if you're a fan of Pac-Man and makeup, I highly recommend this collaboration. The products perform well and Wet n Wild did an amazing job with the packaging and the formulas and shades. It's a fun collection and one I'm excited to own. It honestly makes me happy just to look at the pieces I've added to my makeup collection.
Wet n Wild X Pac-Man Collection Rating: 5/5
