September 2019 Ipsy Glam Bag
September's Ipsy Glam bag theme was Find your Light, which included a pink cloth makeup bag with a white constellation design. The zipper pull was a pretty pearl white crystal which was the perfect accent. The theme focused on finding yourself whether it be with a bold new lipstick or relaxing and masking at home. Here are the products I received this month along with whether I think they fit my profile and reviews given.
The first item in my bag was the Too Faced Damn Girl! Mascara. There was a lot of buzz surrounding this mascara release, I think mainly because it's predecessor Better Than Sex has such a cult following. The applicator on this one is pretty large and hourglass shaped. It has a mix of short and long bristles which are supposed to load up and disperse the product evenly throughout all your lashes. I'm still debating on whether I'm going to try out this mascara or not. I wasn't a huge fan of BTS and I've heard that the large wand on this isn't very friendly towards hooded and smaller eyes. The packaging on this is gorgeous though...I'll give Too Faced two thumbs up on that!
Profile: This fits my profile for the most part. I don't think I have mascara too high up on my list, but I do have Too Faced on it because I tend to like a lot of their products.
Second I received the FARAH Brushes Contour 218M Brush in Midnight Blue. If you follow me, you probably know by now that I'm not a huge fan of FARAH makeup brushes. I generally find them to feel very cheap and not worth the price they sell them for. This one is a little better. The handle reminds me a bit of the new Luxie brushes line, although it still doesn't showcase the same quality. The bristles are a pretty midnight blue colour and they do feel fairly soft, although it still feels like a cheaper brush. For a contour brush, I would rather this have a little more angled shape to it as well.
Profile: Not really a win for me. I do have brushes on my profile and generally rate them very highly because I love to get them, but I have been rating the FARAH brand really low, so it's disappointing to get yet another one.
The third item in my bag was the Kaleido Cosmetics Obsidian Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. I'm not really sure how many eyeliners that Ipsy thinks I need...especially when they're all black. I've never heard of this particular brand before but I do enjoy finding new Indie brands to love. This eyeliner isn't going to be one of them. It's not a matte black - it's got quite a sheen to it and it fades and isn't totally waterproof.
Profile: This doesn't fit at all. I don't have eyeliners on my profile and I definitely don't have this brand as I've never heard of them.
My fourth item was the Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisturizer. This moisturizer claims to be lightweight yet provide 24 hour hydration. It contains hyaluronic acid (which I love) and coconut extract to help enhance moisture retention and make skin look smooth. It claims to restore suppleness, visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and instantly relieve dry, dehydrated skin and even out skin tone.
Profile: This is a huge miss for me. I'm not generally a fan of receiving skin care samples in my Ipsy bag. Most are too small to be able to use long enough to know if they work and I hate disrupting my skincare routine for such a short time. Neither the brand or the product type is on my profile and I always rate it low.
The last item I received was the Ofra x Madison Miller Moondance Highlighter. I actually chose this as an item for my bag and I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised to find this is a full sized product. Ofra is known for their highlighters, and I love their Rodeo Drive Highlighter (you can read my previous review here). I was looking for a new Ofra highlighter in a more champagne toned shade so this was just perfect. I really can't wait to try this new shade out. It looks stunning. I do want to point out though that my lid came cracked (hidden from the picture) and the edging around the highlighter was chipped and loose in the pan. You can really notice one spot in the picture but it actually ran around most of the highlighter.
Profile: I love this brand and I'm a fan of Ofra highlighters, so this was perfect. This one item probably saved the entire bag for me.
Ipsy Add-Ons - this month had some really great add-ons. It was actually really hard to choose and some of them sold out quickly. The one I was most excited about was the Ofra x Madison Miller Squad Midi Palette. As I mentioned above I love Ofra highlighters and the blushes were sold out, so I thought this was a great add on. The palette retails for $35US and I got it for $12US. I wound up being disappointed in this for a couple or reasons. First, it arrived with both highlighters loose in the palette and they won't stay in. One of them also has a chunk taken out of it, which was smeared across the palette. Secondly, the shades in this are much deeper in person than they appeared on the website, and are just unwearable on my pale skin. Other add ons I snagged for $3 each were a two pack of Farmacy Sheet Masks, a full sized Ofra x Madison Miller liquid lipstick, a Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask and an It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness Sensitive Skin Moisturizer.
Overall, my bag was pretty disappointing this month except for the Ofra highlighter and Damn Girl! Mascara. I think if you were new to makeup or to makeup subscriptions you would probably be happy with this month's options. The value on this month's bag was high because the highlighter, the brush and the eyeliner were full sized items, so overally it was a great value. It just wasn't for me personally. I don't count the add-ons in my overall rating since that is an extra added expense. I only rate the base bag, which I think is fair.
Overall Score: 3/5
