Boxycharm - November 2019
Boxycharm theme for the month is Stellar. I was excited for this month's box because there were brands I wanted to try, like Dominique Cosmetics, Juice Beauty and Dose of Colors. We had previously received a Dose of Colours liquid lipstick that I had been looking forward to and received a pink shade, which brought disappointment. I was really hoping to receive a shade I could wear this time, especially with filling out our new profiles. We also received a blister pack of either foundation or concealer in our boxes, to swatch and update our profiles with shade matches for future complexion products.
The variation I received was 7, which included a Dominique Cosmetics palette, a Juice Beauty skincare product, a Dose of Colors lipstick, a Popband eye mask set and a Boxycharm 2 piece brush set. The palette and brushes were supposed to be in all boxes (although I've seen some that did not receive the brush set), the Juice Beauty was a choice option for the month and the other items were all variation products. On to the product breakdown and reviews (where I'm able to). I'll try to include Canadian pricing for products if it's available, but many items we get are only sold in the US or they may be sizes/variations created just for Boxycharm.
The first item that I received was the
Eyeshadow Palette. This palette has eight shades with a mix of mattes and glittery foils. It also has pigments so I will be a nervous to try my hand with them. There are some very wearable browns and coppers in the palette, but also bright pops of colour including the pink and blue shades. The orange in this is really calling to me and probably something I would wear quite often. I'm really curious to see how pigmented these are and whether the shades are patchy or smooth and blendable. Review coming soon on this palette! I believe the 8 shade palette was exclusive to Boxycharm, but you can find the full 12 pan palette at Sephora as Celestial StormDominique Cosmetics Celestial Thunder palette$35 US.
Next in the box was the Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Eye Treatment. This was actually a choice product for us this month. We could choose between the eye treatment or the Kypris Dew Serum. I happen to have a few serums on hand already to try out and can always use a good eye cream, so I went with the Juice Beauty Option. Plus, I've actually always wanted to try something from this brand, so it was a win/win for me. The eye treatment has a blend of fruit stem cells and vitamin C infused into an organic, antioxidant-rich botanical juice which claims to reduce fine lines around the eyes and minimize the appearance of dark circles. This is also marked as a 'clean' product at Sephora because it's a natural product. I don't really have dark circles (that can be treated anyway), but I do love a good eye cream that can help with fine lines. Hopefully this one works well under makeup too! The Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Eye Treatment retails for $50 US or $65 CA.
The third item was the Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick in Flirty. I've really wanted to try a Dose of Colors lipstick for quite a while. It's not a brand available to Canada and I hate paying shipping fees from the US. Previously we received this brand of lipstick in our boxes, but I received a pink shade, much to my disappointment. At the time none of the shades from the month were suitable it turned out, so I couldn't even trade with a friend. This month, unfortunately, the same happened....I received Flirty, which is a dusty pink shade. Again, there weren't any warm nude brown shades sent out, but there was a warm rusty red that I would have been willing to try out, especially with Fall being here and the holidays coming up. Oh well....maybe next time! The Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick retails for $18 US.
Next was the Popband Starry Eyes Popmask. This came in a set of two and initially I thought they were regular eye masks, but they aren't. These masks aren't skincare, but instead warm up on your eye area to relax you. I've actually seen some of these around lately and was curious about them, so I'm actually glad to get these in my box. I get headaches and I have trouble sleeping sometimes, so I'm looking forward to using these and seeing if they help out some. The Set of 2 Popband Starry Eyes Popmasks retails for $10 US or $13.50 CA.
Surprise, surprise, the next item I received was NOT, I repeat WAS NOT an eyeliner, but instead the Boxycharm 2 Piece Brush Set. This is the first ever Boxycharm branded product and I'm not really thrilled about it. I feel, I signed up to receive name brand makeup and skincare...not cheap items Boxycharm sourced and slapped their name on. I'm not a fan of the way these brushes look and I don't actually use this style of brush. They seem like they would be clunky and awkward to try and use on the face. That being said, the brushes are hand crafted, synthetic and cruelty free. The Boxycharm 2 Piece Brush Set retails for $35 US. I totally don't agree with this valuation...which is another issue I have. Being their own brand, they can value it whatever they like to inflate the value of the box. Hopefully this doesn't happen to often.
The total value of November's Boxycharm is $148 US and approximately $197 CDN, which again...I think is inflated due to the brushes. Still a good value though considering the other brands and products we received.
Final verdict? 4/5
This month's box was pretty good! I'm looking forward to trying out the palette, the eye treatment and the self heating eye masks. Getting a Dose of Colors lipstick was awesome, but the shade was not for me. The brushes were a big fail though. I've already passed those along.
